James (Jimmy) E. Prendergast, age 71, of Fairfield, passed away February 15, 2022, at the VA Medical Center in West Haven. Born in Scranton, PA, the son of the late John “Jack” and Marie (Judge) Prendergast, he came to Fairfield in 1960. Jimmy graduated from St. Thomas Aquinas Grammar School and Roger Ludlowe High School, class of 1970. Following graduation, he served in the U.S. Army during the Vietnam era. Jimmy worked for many years for the Fairfield Cab Company and at various local delicatessens in the area. Jimmy will be fondly remembered as an outgoing and friendly soul who enjoyed bocce and was known to hang a nickname or two onto his family and friends. Jimmy had the quickest wit, colorful vocabulary and stories that will live on in legends. He was always considered one of the beloved uncles and will be missed greatly by his nieces and nephews. Jimmy is survived by his brother Kevin Prendergast, sister-in-law Patricia; his nieces and nephews Tara Prendergast, Duncan Clark, Sawyer Clark, Jillian Prendergast, Daniel Prendergast, Quita Christison, Sarah Prendergast, Thomas Prendergast and his Minooka/Scranton family. In addition to his parents, Jimmy was predeceased by a sister Noreen Prendergast and his brother Dennis “Skin” Prendergast. A gathering to celebrate Jimmy’s life will be held Saturday, February 26, 2022, from 10:00 a.m. to 1:00 p.m. in the Spear-Miller Funeral Home, 39 South Benson Road, Fairfield, CT, 06824. A prayer service and personal reflections will begin at 12:30 p.m. In lieu of flowers, contributions in Jimmy’s memory to the American Cancer Society would be appreciated.
