Elder James Sigurd Swendsen, age 96, of Fairfield, beloved husband of the late Eleanor Swendsen, went to be with the Lord Thursday, January 28, 2016 at Shelton Lakes. Born in Aniwa, WI the son of the late Sigurd and Elsie Swendsen, he had been a Fairfield resident for 60 years. He served in the U.S. Army during World War II achieving the rank of Staff Sergeant. Jim was the retired owner of Regal Robes where he delighted in providing liturgical robes for clergy, choir members and evangelists for most of his life. Jim was a caring and deeply religious man who was always willing to help others. Survivors include nieces and nephews, Barbara Lund and her husband Dick of Milford and Marilyn and Tom Watrous of Shelton; a sister-in-law, Esther Johnson of Stratford; his Godson, Rev. Patrick Lewis and a God Daughter Rev. Julia Hayes both of Durham, NC. A funeral service will be held Monday, February 1, 2016 at 11:00 a.m. in the Spear-Miller Funeral Home, 39 South Benson Road, Fairfield with the Rev. David J. DeVries officiating.
