Janet J. Peck

Janet J. Eckert Peck, affectionately known as “JJ,” passed away peacefully on September 22, 2024 in Fairfield, Connecticut. Born on May 24, 1955, in Bridgeport, she was the third daughter of Irene (Randall) and Charles Eckert.

Janet grew up singing in her school and church choirs and showcased her talents in musicals and school performances at Roger Ludlowe High School in Fairfield. She graduated in 1973 and then received a BA degree in Theater and Communications from Western Connecticut State University in Danbury, CT. She was a wedding and special events singer for many years, as well as an administrative assistant.

Janet grew up in The United Congregational Church in Bridgeport and later became a valued member of Black Rock Church in Fairfield. Music was a central part of her life and she was known for her beautiful Mezzo-Soprano voice and musicality. Wherever she lived, her piano wasn’t far behind, and she played it until her final weeks. Most recently, she (and her piano) resided at Ludlowe Center For Health & Rehabilitation in Fairfield.

Janet is survived by her daughter, Emily Peck Prokop, and her husband, Mark Prokop, of Milford, as well as her two treasured grandchildren, Layla Adams and Cameron Prokop, who will forever remember their “Gamma.” She is also survived by her two beloved sisters Betsy Roper of Freeport, ME and Deanie Eckert-Medve (Ken Medve) of Fairfield.

Janet was pre-deceased by her parents, Irene (Randall) and Charles Eckert of Fairfield; Daniel Peck of Westport, to whom she was previously married; her former in-laws, Wanda and Clinton Peck, of Easton and her brother-in-law, Gar Roper of Freeport, ME.

Janet’s family would like to thank Ludlowe Center for Health & Rehabilitation for providing Janet with excellent love and care.
