Janet Sherwood

Janet Sherwood, 60, of Fairfield, CT, passed away at home on July 14, 2023 after complications from open heart surgery.  Janet was born in 1963 to Rosemary Francisco Sherwood and John Joseph Sherwood, Jr. in Ann Arbor Michigan.  She was raised in West Lafayette, Indiana and attended West Lafayette High School.  She graduated from Swarthmore College where she studied psychology and art history.
Importantly, also at Swarthmore College she first met her future husband Matthew Kubasik.  They rediscovered one-another at a 10-year class reunion, and dated by distance until the two relocated to Connecticut.
For many years, Janet flourished as a professional organizer of homes and offices.  Her motto was “Veni, vidi, ordinavi” [I came, I saw, I organized].  She worked with businesses and individuals to create order in offices, closets and kitchens.  Janet loved to create beautiful, functional spaces, and did so for friends, family and clients.  After retiring from her business, she developed a passion for creating artwork from glass.  She worked in both stained glass and fused glass, both representational and abstract.
Janet shared with her mother Rosemary and her father Jack a love of travel.  With her mother, Janet explored the American Southwest and coastal towns in South Carolina.  She travelled with her father and stepmother Flo Hoylman to Europe.  In more recent years, she and Matt travelled the waters of the Baltic, the Caribbean and Alaska.  Closer to home, Janet loved to visit the art museums of New York, Connecticut, and the Massachusetts Berkshires.
She was beloved by countless family members and friends due to her infectious joie de vivre sense of humor, and wordplay.
Janet is predeceased by her mother Rosemary Sherwood.  Janet is survived by her love Matt Kubasik of Fairfield, CT, parents John J. Sherwood, Jr., and Florence Hoylman, of Saualito, CA, brother and sister-in-law Todd and Carolyn Sherwood of Damascas, Maryland, brother and sister-in-law Mark Sherwood and Joan Chen of Burlingame, CA, mother-in-law Claire Kubasik of Scarborough, Maine, Christopher Kubasik and Fawnda McMahon of Los Angeles, CA, Tom Kubasik and Molly Lee of Portland, Maine, sister-in-law Carmel Kubasik, and nieces and nephews.
A memorial service will be held in the Fall.  In lieu of flowers, please consider a donation to Planned Parenthood, the Red Cross, or the ACLU.
