Janice Barney Evans

Janice Barney Evans was born on November 13, 1927 to John Joseph Barney and Margaret Elizabeth Mielcke Barney in Wallington, New Jersey.  She spent her childhood in Clifton, New Jersey and graduated from Pratt Institute in Brooklyn where she met the love of her life, Robert Roy Evans, to whom she was married for 73 years.

Fresh from college, Janice worked as a dining room supervisor for Bell Telephone, pausing to raise two beloved children, Lynn and Bob.  Upon her return to work, Janice taught Home Economics in the West Paterson school system, her most enduring and chosen work.

Janice was raised in the Reformed Church in America at “Old First” in Passaic, New Jersey, her family’s church for several generations and where she was active as Sunday School teacher and superintendent.  When Bob and Janice moved to Fairfield, Connecticut in 1977, she and Bob became members of Greenfield Hill Congregational Church where she was deeply involved.  Janice lived and practiced her faith daily, though quietly.  It ran deep and strong through every aspect of her life.

Janice is predeceased by her parents, her brother Frederick William Barney (Joan Weber Barney), and granddaughter Jenna Leigh Evans.  She is survived by her beloved husband as well as her daughter Lynn Evans Coons (Theodore), her son Robert David Evans (Gretchen), grandchildren Theodore Coons, Jr. (Elizabeth Yee), Blythe Coons (James Micciulla), Margaret Coons (Stefan Weijola), Danielle Pollman (Bobby), and great grandchildren Wiley Coons, Catherine Coons, Elinor Micciulla, and Blaise Micciulla, as well as nephews and cousins.

A Celebration of Life will be held at Greenfield Hill Congregational Church, Fairfield, CT at noon on November 13, followed by interment in Memorial Garden, and then a luncheon reception in the Len Morgan Youth Barn.  In lieu of flowers, gifts can be made to St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital.
