Jean-Marie (Perkins) Murren

Jean-Marie (“Jean”) Murren, age 90, passed away peacefully at her home on Tuesday, May 10, 2022. Born June 15, 1931 in Lowell, Massachusetts, the daughter of the late C. William and Evelyn Perkins, she moved to Fairfield County in 1958 after her marriage to her late husband and the love of her life, Attorney John (“Jack”) H. Murren.  Her family is comforted to know that she is reunited with him and her beloved eldest son, the late Dr. John R. Murren.

A graduate of the N.Y. School of Interior Design and the Katharine Gibbs School, she worked for furniture designer Leo A. Jiranek and as an assistant to the president of Young & Rubicam Advertising, before switching careers and joining TWA as a flight attendant.  After their marriage, the young couple resided in Redding for several years before settling down to raise their children in Fairfield.  Jean was an active volunteer in the Fairfield school system, a member of the Fairfield Historical Society, the House & Garden Club of Greater Bridgeport, the Women’s National Republican Club, a supporter of the Greater Bridgeport Symphony and the Pequot Library, and a former member of The Patterson Club, the Fairfield County Hunt Club, and the Gaelic-American Club.

A lifelong learner, she audited many classes at Fairfield University over the years for “fun”, enjoyed a dozen educational trips to Italy with Professor Eliasoph’s Art History class, and took copious notes during her global travels. She loved to read, knit, cross stitch, draw, paint, tend her roses, play bridge, mahjong, swim with her head held high above the water, attend the live stream opera performances at Fairfield University, winter in her home in Grand Cayman, and sit on her deck at her forever home on Pine Creek.

She is survived by her beloved children, Jim of Las Vegas, NV, Michael (and his wife Mary Kay) of Wilmington, NC, Kathie of Fairfield; her daughter-in-law, Nancy of Fairfield; her eight cherished grandchildren, Katelyn (and her husband Michael Ordman), Jenny (and her husband Ryan McCluskey), John, Jack, Kelley, Emma, Ted, and Quin; her precious great-grandson, Owen McCluskey; her sister, Joyce (and her husband Bob Schulze); and many nieces and nephews. In addition to her husband, Jack, and her son, John, she was predeceased by her brothers, John and Bob Perkins.

She enjoyed a full life with wonderful friends and a loving family, whom she never tired of praising as her greatest accomplishment.
