Longtime resident of Fairfield, Connecticut and loving wife of sixty-three years to James L. McMahon (deceased). She was the first female deacon of the Greenfield Hill Congregational Church, president of the Women's Guild, chairman of the Dogwood Festival Walking Tour, and a member of the church choir for many years.
Joan graduated as the valedictorian from Carrick High School and magna cum laude from the University of Pittsburgh in Pennsylvania where she was president of the Chi Omega chapter. As a pianist and teacher, Joan introduced piano to hundreds of beginning students and performed for many civic and church events over her lifetime. She was a great lover of bridge and avid reader. Joan is survived by her three children- Kevin McMahon and wife Kristen of Pittsburgh, PA; Theodore McMahon and wife Kathy of Madison, CT; and Mary Jo McMahon Dowling and husband Kevin of Gibsonia, PA. Grandchildren are Jamie McMahon, Laura McMahon Monaghan, Theodore McMahon, Caitlin McMahon, Ashlinn Dowling, Aidan Dowling and great grandson Liam Monaghan. A memorial service and reception will be held Thursday June 11, at the Greenfield Hill Congregational Church, 1045 Old Academy Road, Fairfield, Connecticut at 11:00am.
