Joan B. Relihan

Joan Byrne Relihan, 92, entered eternal life on May 29, 2024.  Joan was born in Forest Hills, NY on December 3, 1931, and lived from age 2 in Fairfield, CT, where she was an active member of St. Thomas Aquinas parish.  She moved to Winnetka, IL in 2009, to join her sister, Nancy.  Joan attended St. Thomas Aquinas elementary school in Fairfield and Lauralton Hall in Milford, CT.  She was a graduate of Dunbarton College in Washington, DC, and following graduation worked at the Ladies Home Journal in New York for a number of years.  Thereafter, she served as a financial manager for several small companies in Fairfield County.  While she lived in Fairfield, Joan was a member of the Stamford Yacht Club.

Joan was pre-deceased by her parents, John J. Relihan, Sr. and Mabel McNamara Relihan, by her sister, Sally Relihan Kelly, her brother John J. Relihan, Jr., and by two of her nephews. She is survived by her sister, Nancy Martini (Mrs. W. Curt Martini, Sr.) of Winnetka, IL, and by 10 nieces and nephews, to whom she was a very present and loving aunt.

A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated  at St. Thomas Aquinas Church in Fairfield at 10:00 AM on June 28, 2024, followed by interment in the family plot with her parents at St. Michael’s Cemetery, Stratford.  There will be a Mass with intention at Sacred Heart Church in Winnetka on a date to be determined in the future.
