John G. Donahue, age 95 of Fairfield, beloved husband of the late Joan Trank Donahue, passed away peacefully in his home following a short illness Thursday, January 29, 2015. Born in Detroit, MI the son of the late George and Ethel Donahue, he had been a Fairfield resident since 1947. Jack proudly served in the United States Navy onboard a minesweeper in the Pacific during World War II. Following his military service, Mr. Donahue began his 40 plus year career at Remington Arms, retiring in management. Jack was an accomplished baseball player and in his youth was scouted as a pitcher by the Chicago Cubs. He continued to play baseball and softball for many years. Jack was also an avid golfer, most recently playing in the senior league at the Fairfield Par Three on Old Dam Road. He was an avid NY Mets and NY Giants fan and a longtime loyal member of the Gaelic American Club. Jack delighted in time spent with his family and always looked forward to reading a good book or chatting about baseball. Survivors include five beloved children, Susan D. Moore and her husband Michael of Orange, Jane D. Torello and her husband Bruce of Woodbridge, Megan D. Eckenberger and her husband Stephen of Barbourville, VA, Annie D. Pastore and her husband Glenn of Otisfield, ME and John G. Donahue, Jr. of New York City; nine grandchildren; two great-grandsons; and several nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by three siblings, George Donahue, Margaret Flaherty and Marilou Donahue. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated Tuesday, February 3, 2015 at 10:00 a.m. meeting directly at St. Thomas Aquinas Church, 1719 Post Road, Fairfield. Interment with military honors will follow in St. Thomas Cemetery. Friends may call Monday from 4-7 p.m. in the Spear-Miller Funeral Home, 39 South Benson Road, Fairfield.
