Long time Westporter John J. (Jack) Donovan, 87, passed away peacefully and gently, just as he lived his life, on July 4th, 2014. A lifelong CT resident, he was born in New Haven, April 6, 1927. He had an enduring passion for his wife of 55 years, Mollie, and deep love for his children and their souses, David (Sherry) of Laguna Niguel CA, Eve of Albany CA, Maura (Dave) of Fairfield CT and Daniel (Nicole) of Westport, 12 grandchildren, two sisters-in-law and many nieces and nephews. Jack graduated President of the class of 1945 from Commercial High School in New Haven. He joined the US Army, and was honorably discharged in November, 1946. Returning to CT, he attended The Connecticut College of Commerce (later to become Quinnipiac), and later earned his Certificate of Public Accountancy in 1953. Jack was a 50-year member of The Connecticut Society of Certified Public Accountants. He established a private accounting practice in Westport that he maintained until his retirement at the age of 78. He was an avid photographer, loved historical literature and a good mystery, but will long be remembered as the father on the sidelines with the ever-present camera, traveling to as many games, swim meets, college visits, and art shows that he could possibly make. But nothing made him happier than the house filling up with the voices and footsteps of his grandchildren: Meghan, Haleigh, Eliza, Johnny, Lydia and Patrick Donovan (Westport); Skylar, Avery, Kendyl and Camryn Paulik (Fairfield); and Hollis and Harper Donovan (Laguna Niguel, CA). Jack was predeceased by his son, Douglas, in 1984, and wife, Mollie, in 2011. A graveside service for friends and family will take place at 11:00am on Friday, July 11, 2014, The Assumption Cemetery, Greens Farms Road, Westport CT.
We would like to extend our heartfelt gratitude to Jack's dedicated caregivers, Iris, Maria, Rafaelina and Awilda, whose extraordinary level of care made it possible for him to stay in the home he loved. We also wish to thank Linda Tucker of Visiting Nurse and Hospice for her support, guidance and understanding. In lieu of flowers the family requests donations be made in Jack's memory to the Douglas Donovan Scholarship, care of Staples Tuition Grants, P.O. Box 5159â₨, Westport, CT 06881-5159
