John G. Gisondi

Dr. John G. Gisondi of Fairfield, Connecticut died at home on Tuesday, August 25th, 2020 at age 80.
He was born in Jersey City, New Jersey on September 2nd, 1939 to Antoinette Meluso Gisondi and Cosimo Francis Gisondi, originally of The Bronx, New York. The youngest of four boys, he attended St. Peter's Prep in Jersey City before matriculating to The University of Notre Dame. It was during a train ride to the tri-state area for Christmas break that he met his wife of fifty-seven years, Mary Ann Carroll of Torrington, Connecticut who was attending St. Mary's College. They married in 1963.
After graduation, he attended Fairleigh Dickinson University School of Dental Medicine, then served as a commissioned officer and Senior Assistant Dental Surgeon in the United States Navy, as part of the U.S. Public Health Service in Atlanta, Georgia.
He next attended the Tufts University School of Dental Medicine and then moved to Fairfield where he built his orthodontic practice, treating generations of families over four decades. He was a Diplomat of the American Board of Orthodontics, and a member of the American Association of Orthodontists, Connecticut State Society of Orthodontists, New Haven Dental Society and Bridgeport Dental Association. In 2009 he was voted One of Connecticut's Top Orthodontists by Connecticut Magazine. He was a longtime member of St. Pius X Catholic Church and the Patterson Club where he golfed avidly, particularly in retirement.
He was predeceased by his parents and brothers Andrew, Joseph and Nicholas. He is survived by his wife Mary Ann, son John, daughter Juliet Gisondi-Mazzia and son-in-law Olivier, and Stephanie Gisondi-Little and son-in-law Gregory, grandchildren Katie, Jack, Henry, Max, Theo, and Hugo as well as several nieces and nephews.
Private funeral services were held at St. Pius X Catholic Church and interment at Oak Lawn Cemetery in Fairfield. In memoriam, donations to the Leukemia & Lymphoma Society, Donor Services, PO Box 98018, Washington DC 20090-8018, or to a charity of your choice would be appreciated.
