John J. Kochis, a life-long resident of Fairfield, passed on February 15, 2019 with his loving wife Helen by his side. Jack and Helen had a wonderful 56 years of marriage, the love they shared was immense. Jack was loved and respected by many in the community. He gave so much of himself to others his entire life. Jack volunteered for many years coaching little league baseball and Pop Warner football while raising a family and at times working more than one job to support his beautiful family. Jack was a proud Marine and survivor of the ill-fated Paris Island Death March - Semper Fi. Jack loved the NY Giants, travelling, dining out and most of all spending time with his wife, children, grandchildren and great-grandchildren. Jack's generous ways were immeasurable, he would give anything to those he loved and anyone in need who crossed his path. After retiring from his job as an electrician at Fairprene, Jack continued to work as a bus driver for both children and senior citizens and most recently as a crossing guard until his health declined. Jack will be remembered for being his family's Patriarch, always with a smile and a joke, and always the man you could count on. Jack will surely be missed by all that knew him; he was loved by his neighbors on Fairview Avenue where he and Helen lived their entire life together as well as countless friends and his extended large family. Jack is survived by his wife Helen, son Keith & Chrisie Kochis, daughters Karen (Kochis) & Doug Philipp, and Alicia Kochis and Dave Telo; grandchildren Kurtis Kochis, Carly Kochis, Sarah Kochis, and Jenna (Philipp) & Eric Swanson, great-grandchildren Roxi and Bailey Philipp. He was predeceased by his son Craig Kochis and grandson Jake Philipp who he has missed dearly for years and has now joined in Heaven. Calling hours are 4 - 8 at Spear-Miller Funeral Home, 39 South Benson Rd., Fairfield, Wednesday, February 20th. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at Holy Family Church in Fairfield at 10:30 Thursday, February 21st. Interment with military honors will follow in Lawncroft Cemetery. A gathering in Jack's honor will be held at 1:30 at Port 5 in Bridgeport.
