John J. "Jack" Lasko

John J. “Jack” Lasko, age 93, of Fairfield, beloved husband of 50 years to Ruth (Dakai) Lasko, passed away peacefully, Sunday, March 13, 2022 at Bridgeport Hospital.  Born in Fairfield, the son of the late John and Ethel Lasko, he had been a lifelong Fairfield resident.  He was a graduate of Roger Ludlowe High School, class of 1946, where he played Football, Basketball and Track.  In 1945 Jack was awarded the Francis Gallagher Trophy for outstanding Football player and was selected to the All District Football Team.  Following high school, he played semi-pro football for the Stratford Rockets and the Fairfield Tigers.  Jack went on to proudly serve in the U.S. Army during the Korean War attaining the rank of Sergeant and played Football, Basketball and Fast-pitch Softball. He remained active in sports locally until 2002 where he continued to play Softball, Basketball and Bowling.  Jack was the retired owner and operator of Southport Automotive.  In addition to his loving wife, Ruth, he is survived by a son, Michael Lasko of Fairfield; step-children whom he considered his own: Katherine Wengenroth and her husband, Chris of Fairfield, Linda Giesken and her husband, Joseph of Fairfield, Timothy Casale and his wife Laura of Fairfield and David Casale and his wife Meghan of Shelton; grandchildren, Kyle Wengenroth (Courtney), Morgan Wengenroth, Amanda Moralez (Johnny), Katherine Giesken, Megan Nemeroff (Adam), Robert Giesken, Kristen Casale, Kelly Casale, Greenley Lasko, and Jake Lasko; great-grandchildren, Wolfgang Wengenroth, Nathan and Gabriella Nemeroff; a sister, Kathleen Lasko and several nieces and nephews.  He was predeceased by his brother, Eugene Lasko. A private graveside service was held at Lawncroft Cemetery.  In lieu of flowers, contributions in Jack’s memory may be made to the St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital, 501 St. Jude Place, Memphis, TN 38105.
