John L. "Jack" Raymond

We announce with heartfelt sorrow and a deep sense of loss the passing of John L. "Jack" Raymond on January 27, 2024, at the age of 90. Born in Detroit, Michigan, on March 4, 1933, to the late Louis W. and Alyce Sammon Raymond, Jack spent his childhood in Bridgeport and Stratford. But eventually he found his forever home in Fairfield as a teenager and remained a cherished member of the community throughout his life.

Jack, a Middlebury College alumnus, carried with him not only the knowledge he gained but also a lifelong appreciation for the outdoors, kindled during his younger years. This love for nature was evident in his passion for sailing and collecting, activities that connected him with the world in a deeply personal way.

A respected business owner in the aerospace industry, Jack's professional achievements were matched only by his personal passions. His love for sailing, especially his sailboat Aerial, was well-known. But beyond the sea, Jack had a remarkable penchant for collecting—an eclectic array of cameras, radios, cars, toys, and other treasures that would captivate the heart of any boy. His collections were not just possessions; they were reflections of a life lived with curiosity and a deep appreciation for history and craftsmanship.

Though private in nature, Jack's kindness and generosity touched the lives of those around him in profound ways. He is survived by his loving wife, Hangyan (Yan) Luo, his children Darcy Marelli and her husband Scott, Jack F. Raymond and his wife Susan, and his cherished grandchildren, Peter, Cole, John, and James, and his great grandson Peter Jr.. His siblings, Roger Raymond, Melissa Barnes, and the late Candace Raveis, along with numerous nieces, nephews, cousins and step-children, will remember him fondly.

Family and friends are invited to join in a celebration of Jack’s life on Wednesday, January 31, from 4 PM to 7 PM at Spear-Miller Funeral Home, 39 South Benson Rd., Fairfield. Respecting Jack's wishes, all other services will be private. The family suggests memorial contributions be made to the Dementia Society Inc ., 188 N. Main Street, Doylestown, PA 18901.

Jack's journey through life was marked not just by what he achieved but by who he was—a man of curiosity, generosity, and enduring spirit. He will be deeply missed but forever remembered as an inspiring figure in the lives of all who knew him.
