John W. Vellturo

John W Vellturo was born on October 23, 1931; the same day the George Washington Bridge opened (a fact he regaled to all with great pride).  The eldest son of Angelo and Antionette (Alu) Vellturo, he graduated from Ansonia High School where he played football and basketball and was team captain and senior class president.

After high school, he attended the University of Connecticut where he graduated in 1953 with a BS in chemistry. At UConn he was a member of Alpha Sigma Phi fraternity and its president his senior year.  He was a member of the fife and drum corps where he further developed his life-long love of making music. UConn also held a special place in his heart, as that is where he met his wife of 68 years, Natalie.  After UConn, he received a commission as a 2nd lieutenant in the US Army Ordnance Corp.  John was sent to southern France where he served as a renovation officer. While serving there, he started a band with his comrades; he was honorably discharged in October, 1955.

He worked as a product chemist in the aerosol industry at CT Chemical Research Co.  He later became a developmental researcher at US Polymeric in Stamford, CT, followed by 2 years at E.I. DuPont.  At Dupont, he learned the trade of tech sales; this led him to launch his own business, JCL Associates of Southport, CT in 1972.  JCL specialized in representing manufacturers in the printed circuit board industry.  John was twice published in “PC Magazine” and in “American Plastics Monthly”.  He sold JCL in 1986.

John was a devoted NY Giants and UConn sports fan and avid golfer playing at the Patterson Club for 35 years where he served as Director. He also served on the Town of Fairfield's Golf Commission and was a member of Kiwanis, the Gaelic American Club, and the Fayerweather Yacht Club. He was extremely well-read, fun-loving and known to break into song with his guitar.

He was dearly loved by his wife Natalie (Donegan) and their three children, John Jr., Chris and Laura and their spouses, the late Kris Vellturo, Natalie Kirkland, and John Bazenas, respectively, as well as his sister Lucille Sardo and brother Anthony Vellturo. He will be deeply missed by his grandchildren Colleen, Kevin, Madeline, Alyse, and Bridget Vellturo, and Jay and William Bazenas. A memorial mass will be held at St. Pius Church in Fairfield on December 17th at 10am. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to Connecticut Hospice of Branford, CT  or The Salvation Army. His life was lived to the fullest and he will be loved forever.
