Joseph L. Dyer, age 61, of Fairfield, passed away peacefully the morning of Sunday, April 7, 2024 in the presence of his loved ones.
Born in Queens, NY to John and Margaret “Ruth” (Delap) Dyer, Joe was raised in Fairfield where he would attend Assumption School and graduate from Fairfield Prep with the Class of 1980. His love for cars drew him to the automotive industry; this passion would lead him to become a great mechanic. Joe even had a few fun cars of his own including his 1967 Camaro and an MG B. Eventually, his part-time job bartending became a full-time job, and he would go on to bartend at the SS Norden Club in Black Rock for many years.
Anyone that met Joe soon learned of his immense knowledge of anything to do with the Classic Rock genre. Not only was he able to identify some of the more obscure songs by just listening to a few notes, but he could fascinate you with trivia-type knowledge in regard to the band and their members. He attended nearly countless concerts by his favorite bands, Pink Floyd, The Rolling Stones, the Grateful Dead, and The Who, to name a few. His immense music collection appropriately earned him the nickname “Jukebox Joey.”
Joe understood that laughter is the best medicine and made it a point to take time to laugh with friends and family every day. You could always count on his quick wit to make the entire room burst with laughter. Joe was also an exceptional friend with an enormous heart; he never thought twice to help a friend in need.
Joe is survived by his brothers, John Dyer (Kathryn) and Paul Dyer (Beverly); his sister, Stephanie Armshaw; his beloved partner and companion, Michelle Laviolette; as well as 14 nieces and nephews, and 19 great nieces and nephews.
In addition to his parents, John and Ruth Dyer, Joe is predeceased by his brothers Patrick and Anthony Dyer.
Friends and family are invited to attend a Mass of Christian Burial on Tuesday April 16, 2024 at 10:00am at Holy Family Church, 700 Old Stratfield Road, Fairfield. Interment will be held privately. In lieu of flowers, please consider a memorial donation to
