Joseph Gall, Jr., age 91 of Fairfield, beloved husband of Reta Gall, passed away peacefully in his residence following a prolonged illness and surrounded by his loving family Sunday, January 5, 2014. Born in Fairfield on October 27, 1922, the son of the late Joseph and Bertha Gall, he had been a lifelong town resident. Mr. Gall served in the U.S. Coast Guard during World War II. Joe was an active and dedicated resident of Fairfield. He served on the RTM, retired as a Captain for the Fairfield Special Police, was a Justice of the Peace, and also served as a Marshall for the State of Connecticut. He was a member of the V.F.W. Post 9427 and the American Legion Post 74. In 2003 Mr. Gall received the John J. Sullivan Award Public Service Award from the Fairfield Democratic Town Committee in recognition of his service to his town, the Democratic Party and for his continued leadership skills. Survivors in addition to his loving wife Reta include a son, Joseph Gall, III of Shelton; a daughter, Deborah Bennet of Fairfield; a step-daughter, Laura Szerszen of Fairfield, and a step-son Anthony Luther, of Shelton; and several grandchildren and great grandchildren. He was predeceased by sisters, Bertha Bok of Fairfield and Jenny D'Maria of Easton. A graveside service with military honors will be held Friday, January 10, 2014 at 11:00 a.m. at Lawncroft Cemetery, 1740 Black Rock Turnpike, Fairfield. There will be no calling hours. In lieu of flowers memorial contributions may be made to the American Cancer Society, 38 Richards Ave., Norwalk, CT 06854.
