Joseph Patrick D'Apice, Md

Joseph Patrick D'Apice, MD (80) departed peacefully from this life on May 6, 2020 in Bridgeport, Connecticut. He was the beloved husband of Cecilia Huber D'Apice (Chee-Chee) with whom he shared 55 years of marriage and a passion for hosting elegant dinner parties featuring his homemade pizza and breads. Joe and Chee-Chee spent many enjoyable hours together antique hunting and decorating their home with a myriad of treasures they prized for their beauty and history. The stylish couple could frequently spotted on the dance floor, twirling to big band music.



Born in Bridgeport, Connecticut, Joe was the son of the late Anthony and Martha Petrucelli D'Apice of Trumbull and Fairfield and the brother of Rita D'Apice Gould (Van) of Killingworth. He was a graduate of Fairfield College Preparatory High School, Fairfield University and St. Louis University Medical School. Hundreds of Dr. D'Apice's patients will remember a witty, caring man nattily attired in a suit, tie and suspenders.



He began his 47-year career in Psychiatry with a residency at Fairfield Hills Hospital in Newtown, Connecticut followed by a Psychiatric Residency at Yale University. While maintaining a bustling private practice in Fairfield, Connecticut, Dr. D'Apice served as Attending Psychiatrist at St.Vincent's Medical Center and the Norwalk Hospital Psychiatric Clinic. He was honored to serve as a Consultant to the Diocese of Bridgeport, Marriage Tribune and enjoyed mentoring students as a Clinical Assistant Professor of Psychiatry and Behavioral Sciences at New York Medical College. A member of the American Board of Psychiatry and Neurology, Dr. D'Apice was also a Diplomate of The American College of Forensic Examiners and the American Board of Forensic Medicine. Dr. D'Apice was a Distinguished Life Fellow of the American Psychiatric Association.



He leaves behind his children Mary D'Apice (Yoshi Ogawa) of Indianapolis, Martie D'Apice (John Banks) of New York City, A.J. D'Apice (Jennie) of LaGrange, IL and Ann D'Apice of Barcelona, Spain. Dad was very proud of his Italian heritage and his children are so grateful he passed on its many culinary delights. His children will miss his sense of humor and colorful turns of phrase. "Beeba" will lovingly be remembered and widely quoted by grandchildren Aya, Lucas, Ally, Evie, Hank and Leo who fondly recall his favorite catch phrase - "We have more fun than people!"



A private burial will be held on Saturday, May 9. When it is safe to gather, friends and family will be invited to a Catholic Mass with all the pageantry he adored. His family plans to make the consummate host and life-of-the-party beam with pride when he looks down upon a jubilant celebration of his life.
