Julie Schempp, 97, of Fairfield, Connecticut, died peacefully in her sleep at home on September 2, 2017. Born December 23, 1919 in Bridgeport, Connecticut, she is predeceased by her late husband of 66 years, Harry Schempp, and her son, Woody Schempp, formerly of Norwalk.
Julie retired as executive secretary from PDS Technologies-in Fairfield at the age of eighty. She was very involved with her community as an officer of the Fairfield Arts Council, a volunteer at the Quick Center of Fairfield University, a Pacer with the Fairfield Senior Center, and an active member of St. Paul's Episcopal Church. She also enjoyed playing pinochle until the wee hours of the morning with her sisters and nephew.
Survivors include her daughter, Wendy Matthews of Princeton, NJ; her grandchildren, Maia Vargas of Niantic, Rhoby Schempp of Bridgeport, Avery Matthews of Blacksburg, Virginia, and David Sloane of Rosemont, California; and her great-grandchildren, Jaxon and Kaden Vargas, and Alastair Matthews. She is also survived by her sisters, Sue LaMarche of Misquamicut, Rhode Island, and Nancy Robinson of Memphis, Tennessee. In addition, she leaves her daughter-in-law, Gail Stone of Norwalk, and numerous beloved nieces and nephews, and friends.
A memorial service will be held at St. Paul's Church, Fairfield, Connecticut on Saturday, September 23, 2017 at 11:00 a.m. Memorial donations may be made to St. Paul's Episcopal Church (661 Old Post Road • Fairfield, CT 06824 • 203-259-3013).
