Karl Joseph Kery, 80, of Fairfield CT entered into eternal rest on August 2nd, 2023 after a long battle with COPD and CHF.
Karl was born in Norwalk on October 22nd, 1942 to William and Ailsa Anderson Kery. Karl lived and went to School in Westport and graduated from Staples high school in 1961. He then attended and graduated from Bryant College (RI) in 1965. It was at Bryant that he met his wife of 58 years, Elaine Banville Kery, and they were married on October 16, 1965. Karl began work for Norden Aircraft before going to Perkin-Elmer in Danbury and worked on the Hexagon project before he and Elaine welcomed son Timothy into the world on August 13, 1966. However, he returned to work for his father in 1970, and would eventually continue as the third-generation owner of Kery Plumbing and Heating, working for himself until his retirement in 2004. The Kery family eventually moved from Danbury to Southport, where they still reside and had two more sons: Michael (1977) and Kevin (1982).
In life, Karl was a dedicated public servant and volunteer, giving generously of himself to the town of Fairfield through the RTM and Town Zoning Committees. But it was with young people that Karl had such a lasting and unforgettable impact. He initiated Fairfield’s “Town and Gown” committee where youth from each of Fairfield’s High Schools would come together. He coached Little League for over twenty years, inspiring many ball-players to care about more than wins and losses. And, he gave completely to a deep love of his in Scouting. Karl was the Scoutmaster of Troop 98 in Southport for over thirty years and shepherded 27 Eagle Scouts, and thousands more through his troop- a place where he imparted wisdom and life-lessons to every young person he met.
Karl is survived by his wife Elaine and his sons Timothy (Dana), Michael (Maureen), and Kevin (Sara) and his six grandchildren Finnian, Rebecca, Sean, Matthew, Molly, and Maggie. He is predeceased by son Kyle (1975). Karl will be deeply missed by all who encountered him, and forever remembered for all that he gave to so many that he loved.
Karl’s family will receive friends and relatives at the Spear-Miller Funeral Home, 39 S Benson Rd. Ffld from 4-8 on Thursday, August 10th. A Mass of Christian Burial will be held Friday, August 11th at 11:00am at St. Pius Church Fairfield. In lieu of flowers, a gift may be made in Karl’s Memory to Camp Yawgoog (223 Scituate Ave. Cranston, RI) a place that was very special to him and all of the scouts he worked with (https://donations.scouting.org/#/council/546/appeal/4915)
