Laurie Marie Mitchell, 46, of Fairfield, CT, passed away September 5th, surrounded by loved ones, after a two-year battle with cancer.
A lifelong resident of Fairfield, she was born in Bridgeport, CT, on December 18, 1971, and relished her many years living on Fairfield Beach with her family. She graduated from Fairfield High School and attended Fairfield University. For more than a decade, Laurie worked at Landmark Financial Group, Southport, CT, in client and public relations.
As a young woman Laurie was a gifted and accomplished dancer. She began her dancing career at Bridgeport's Downtown Cabaret Theater, and studied with Luigi, the Father-of-Jazz, at Carnegie Hall. With great skill and inspiration, Laurie performed on many stages and toured the country in the musical production "Damn Yankees". Yoga and gardening provided peace and balance in her life. Laurie had a keen eye and sense of style, which she wove into her life through fashion and interior design. She loved to travel, especially on ski trips to Stowe, VT, with her husband, Lorne Mitchell, her son, Rhys Schaper, and Mr. Biggs, their loveable Tibetan mastiff. Laurie had many friends, and the unbreakable bond she shared with her mother and sisters sustained her in good times and bad.
In addition to her cherished son Rhys and husband Lorne, Laurie is survived by her devoted mother, Karen Anthony; her sister and brother-in-law, Michelle and Keith Dalling; her sister, Corinne Vizzo-Ganim; brother-in-law and sister-in-law, Leslie and Daphne Mitchell; sister-in-law Heather Mitchell. "Auntie Laurie" will be sadly missed by her loving nieces and nephews as well as, many adoring relatives. She is predeceased by her father, Louis Vizzo, and her beloved stepfather, Richard Anthony.
A Memorial Mass will take place at St. Thomas Church in Fairfield, Saturday, September 29, 2018, at 11:00 AM. She will be buried in a private ceremony at Oak Lawn Cemetery.
