Lawrence R. Jursch, age 97 of Fairfield, beloved husband of the late Beatrice Jursch, passed away Tuesday, June 30, 2015 at Bridgeport Hospital. Born in the Bronx, NY on October 22, 1917 the son of the late Louis and Madeline Jursch, he was raised in the Bronx and had been a Fairfield resident since 1949. He met and married his devoted wife Beatrice in 1941 and served as a New York City policeman from 1942 to 1946. Following his police service Mr. Jursch was employed in the steel industry and successfully rose to the position of CT District Manager for the National Steel Company until retiring at the age of 62. After his retirement Larry worked in sales and taught organ at Westport Piano and Organ and Fry's Piano. He loved to play the organ and would often play at Lion's Club functions and at numerous parties and taught organ privately. Actively involved in the Fairfield community, he served on the Police Commission for many years serving as Chairman. He was a long-time member and Past President of the Fairfield Lion's Club and was a recipient of the Lion's Lifetime Achievement Award. Larry was active in the Cub Scouts and served as a Troop Leader for the Boy Scouts. He was active in church events, was a devoted community advocate; addressing the town Zoning Board for the Expansion of the Ludlow Health and Rehabilitation Center facility where he wife, Beatrice was a resident and was also an advocate for neighborhood and town projects. He received the Key to the Town of Fairfield for his service on the Police Commission. Larry was a real people person who always loved to socialize, be it on the golf course with his buddies or through his community and neighborhood involvements. He never hesitated to assist those in need and derived great satisfaction in helping others. Survivors include two beloved sons, Robert Jursch of Annapolis, MD and Ronald Jursch and his wife Judith of East Hampton, CT and a nephew Douglas Jursch of Paramus, NJ. He was predeceased by a brother, Harold Jursch. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated Wednesday, July 8, 2015 at 10:00 a.m. meeting directly at St. Pius X Church, 834 Brookside Drive, Fairfield.
