Lilian A Wirth

Lilian A. "Anne" Wirth, 99, passed away peacefully on April 26, 2015 surrounded by family and friends. She was born in London, England on a snowy March 6, 1916, beloved daughter of the late John Goodall and Alice Elizabeth (White) Goodall. Anne was married in 1955 to the late Joseph Wirth of Hungary. Anne was a world traveler who enjoyed all life had to offer in her native England, Australia, Canada, and the U.S. where she resided for over 50 years in Fairfield. She was a hard worker for most of her long life, though always enjoyed her jobs and the people she worked with. She volunteered as an ambulance driver during the London Blitz in World War II, and then, after the war, started in London at Selfridges on Oxford Street, where she rose to become an Assistant Buyer. In the U.S. she worked at McKinley School in Fairfield and then for many years with American Frozen Foods, as a customer service representative where she twice won an Employee of the Month award, finally retiring at 92. More recently she appeared as "The Queen" in an on air TV commercial for Harry's Wine Store in Fairfield.
Anne leaves a devoted and loving son, Peter, of New York City and many, many friends. Religion played a lifelong role in Anne's life from her early days at St. Dunstan's grammar school in London to her confirmation at St. Paul's Cathedral through to her involvement in activities at her churches, first at St. Mark's in Bridgeport and in later years, Our Saviour's of Fairfield. Other interests included her charities, reading and travel. The family invites friends to attend a Remembrance service on Saturday, May 2, 2015 at 4 PM, at Our Saviour's Lutheran Church, 160 Hill Farm Road followed by a buffet reception. In lieu of flowers, Anne would like donations to be made to St Jude's Children's Fund (www.stjude.org), Guiding Eyes for the Blind (www.guidingeyes.com), or the CT SPCA (www.spcact.com).
