Lorraine Ann (Jaccarino) Gfeller

Lorraine Ann Jaccarino Gfeller passed away peacefully Tuesday, May 16, 2023.

Born 12/1/1935 to Kathryn A. (Jordan) and Richard W. Jaccarino in Bronx, NY, Lorraine grew up in Greenwich, graduating from Our Lady of Good Council in White Plains, NY. From there she went on to study English Literature at Catholic University in Washington DC.

After college, and before starting her family, Lorraine taught English at St. Mary’s High School in Greenwich.

She married John C. Gfeller in 1960 and together they raised four children, Lisa, John, Ann-Marie and Kathryn in Greenwich.

From an early age, Lorraine was an avid reader with a penchant for biographies and autobiographies, notably Hollywood greats, though she recently finished a biography of Vincent van Gogh and devoured a whole series of novels.  Lorraine often paired a biography with a study of the actor’s movies, or in the case of van Gogh, his paintings.  Her favorite actors were Vivien Leigh, Elizabeth Taylor, Robert Redford and Warren Beatty.  Her all time favorite movies were “Wuthering Heights” and “Waterloo Bridge”.

Lorraine was a fabulous cook and to this day her daughter Lisa will tell you she has never had a better calzone than the ones her mom made at home!  Lorraine was an interested participant in world news and current events and had you not been aware, she could always bring you up to speed.  Some of the other hobbies she enjoyed over her lifetime included gardening, knitting and volunteering in pre-school classrooms.  Her husband had two nicknames for her — “Lo” and “any flat surface“ as she often left post-it notes, scraps of paper, index cards, recipes, magazine articles and mail all over the home—-literally on any flat surface!  Though most people didn’t appreciate or understand it, Lorraine had a biting sense of humor.

Lorraine is survived by her daughter Lisa Gfeller (formerly Laudadio) of Bridgeport, CT and her son John Gfeller (Melanie) of Mt Laurel, NJ; her grandchildren Dr. Elizabeth Laudadio of Chicago, IL, Bryan and Kevin Gfeller of Mt Laurel, NJ; her cousin, Joan Pappalardo (Somers, NY), her brother and sister-in-law, Dr. Robert and Jacqueline Gfeller of Bloomfield, CT; niece Dr. Debra Ann Gfeller (Michael Giaimo), and nephews Robert Gfeller (Lisa), Charles Gfeller (Alena), Steven Jaccarino (Debbie), Timothy Jaccarino (Hilda), Richard Jaccarino and Peter Jaccarino.  She is predeceased by her loving husband, John, her daughters Ann-Marie and Kathryn Gfeller, her granddaughter Kathryn Laudadio and her brothers Richard and Frederick Jaccarino. A Memorial Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated Tuesday, May 23, 2023 at 11:00 a.m. at St. Pius X Church, 834 Brookside Drive, Fairfield.  Interment will be held privately in St. Mary’s Cemetery, Greenwich.
