Louis John Markoya

Louis John Markoya, 88, died peacefully at Connecticut Hospice, Branford, CT, on July 26, 2014. Louis was born on August 18, 1925 in Bridgeport, CT. Louis served in the U.S. Navy during WWII, from May 1943 until February 1946, on the USS Davis during the Invasion of Normandy and finished his tour on the USS Enterprise. He retired from Sikorsky Aircraft, after 30 years of service in 1990, where he was a sheet metal mechanic. An active member of Holy Cross R.C. Church, Fairfield, CT where he served as usher and past president of KSKJ, the American Slovenian Catholic Union. Louis served as Chaplain in the American Legion, Post 74, where he received the American Legion Gold Medal of Merit. Louis was very active as a Fairfield community volunteer. In retirement, he enjoyed traveling with his wife, Rose, playing cards weekly and enjoyed a morning cup of coffee at McDonalds with his friends. One of Louis' greatest joys in life was to spend time with his family at frequent gatherings. Louis is survived by his beloved wife of 65 years, Rose Toth Markoya, and four loving children, Louis Markoya, Jr. and his wife Diane of Bethel, CT, Pamela Markoya of Santa Fe, NM, Arlene Lawrence and her husband Steve of Monroe, CT, and David Markoya and his wife Bonnie of Derby, CT; six grandchildren, Amber and Blayze Markoya, Kelsey and Kira Lawrence, and Rachel and Matthew Markoya; and four great grandchildren. A Mass of Christian burial will be celebrated Wednesday, July 30, 2014 at 10:00 AM meeting DIRECTLY at Holy Cross Church, 750 Tahmore Dr., Fairfield with interment to follow at Lawncroft cemetery. Friends may call Tuesday, July 29, 2014 from 5-8 PM at the Spear-Miller Funeral Home, 39 S Benson Rd., Fairfield. In lieu of flowers, the family requests that donations be made to Connecticut Hospice in memory of Louis Markoya.
