Madelyn M. Foley

Madelyn M. Foley, age 86, a longtime Fairfield resident, beloved wife of the late Raymond F. Foley, was called home peacefully to God on Thursday June 16, 2016 with her loving family by her side. She was born and raised in Bridgeport and attended St. Augustine Parochial School, Lauralton Hall and Weylister Junior College becoming a private secretary for a stock broker. Later she worked for many years as a substitute teacher in the Bridgeport school system until becoming a devoted mother to her beloved children and later her nine beloved grandchildren. This was her true calling in life. Madelyn enjoyed volunteering her time at Our Lady of the Assumption school in Fairfield and was a past member of the Ladies Guild. She loved traveling, gardening and hosting many family events, holidays and picnics with her family and friends. In later years she worked at the Fairfield University Library. Madelyn also maintained a life-long devotion to the Blessed Mother. Survivors include her children Mary Ramsey and her husband Mark of Trumbull, Elaine Flanagan and her husband Daniel of Easton, Dr. Raymond Foley and his wife Diane of Burlington, CT, Robert Foley and his wife Stephanie of Trumbull and Carolyn Brown and her husband Martin of Easton; 9 beloved grandchildren, Meredith and Emily Ramsey, Matthew Flanagan, Colleen, Jack and Brendan Foley, Colin, Elizabeth and Erin Foley; a sister, Margaret Burbank of Beaumont, TX; brother, John Shuk of LaMesa, CA. and several nieces and nephews. She is predeceased by a brother, Raymond Shuk. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated Wednesday, June 22, 2016 at 10:00 AM meeting DIRECTLY at Our Lady of the Assumption Church, 545 Stratfield Rd., Fairfield with interment to follow in Gate of Heaven Cemetery. Friends may greet the family Tuesday, June 21, 2016 from 4-8 PM in the Spear-Miller Funeral Home, 39 S. Benson Rd., Fairfield.
