Margaret M. Martire, age 96, of Fairfield, beloved wife of 60 years of Gregory Martire, passed away peacefully with her family at her side Wednesday, February 3, 2016 at the CT Hospice in Branford. Born in Brooklyn, NY the daughter of the late Angelo and Maria Giovanniello she had been a Fairfield resident since 1974. Mrs. Martire graduated from the New York Fashion Institute in 1935 and began her long career as a talented seamstress. She was a member of the Ladies Garment Workers Union of New York. Margaret loved the crochet and delighted in creating blankets and Scarves for her family and also used her sewing skills to make clothing for her children, grandchildren and great-grandchildren. A devout Roman Catholic she was a parishioner of St. Thomas Aquinas Church where she was a member of the Ladies Guild. She was a member of the Young At heart Group where she met many friends. Margaret was a loving, kind and generous woman, always willing to help others. The true joy of her life was spending time with her family, especially her grandchildren and great-grandchildren whom she adored. Survivors in addition to her loving husband Greg include two beloved children, Joanne Parrella and her husband Barry of Fairfield and Angelo Martire of Seymour; four cherished grandchildren, Gregory Parrella and his wife Courtney of Milford, Angela Kestner and her husband Bryan of Hamden, Michael Martire and his wife Amanda of Bridgeport and Nico Martire and his wife Kaili of Columbus, GA; five adoring great-grandchildren, London, Peyton, Cameron, Phoenix and Harper; a sister, Angelina DeMaria of Virginia and several nieces and nephews. She was predeceased by a sister, Sabina and a brother, Anthony. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated Saturday, February 6, 2016 at 10:00 a.m. meeting directly at St. Thomas Aquinas Church, 1719 Post Rd., Fairfield. Interment will follow in Willowbrook Cemetery, Westport. Friends may call Friday from 5-7 p.m. in the Spear-Miller Funeral Home, 39 South Benson Rd., Fairfield.
