After many years of diabetes and increasing dementia, Margaret Bain Dale McCain, of Fairfield, wife of Arthur W. McCain, Jr., died peacefully December 21, 2021at Maplewood Senior Center, Strawberry Hill Ave. Norwalk CT.
A dedicated and beloved homemaker, daughter, sister, wife, mother and friend, Margaret, known as Peggy, had been a Fairfield resident since 1973. She was born in Boston, MA in 1934, a daughter of the late Lawrence Lamar Dale and Grace Tulloch Bain Dale, and was a graduate of The Masters School in Dobbs Ferry, NY, and Smith College, Northhampton, MA. A former English teacher in N. Syracuse, NY, she lived in Milan, Italy where her husband held a position in Olivetti General Electric Co. from 1964 through 1968. There she delivered her third child and was a member of the British American Club. In Fairfield she was a dedicated volunteer, serving six years on the Fairfield Board of Library Trustees. An active member of the Greenfield Hill Congregational Church, she was a deacon, a Ministerial Search Committee member and for many years a Women’s Guild Executive Board member. For many of her forty-five years as a choir member, she arranged the Church’s Dogwood Festival music programs and helped to run the festival’s tag sale. She was a Dogwood Festival chairperson in 1987. She was a member of The Fairfield Museum and History Center, The Connecticut Audubon Society and the Fairfield Beach Club where she was an avid tennis player. She held a CT real-estate license and was associated with William Pitt Real Estate.
In addition to her husband of 65 years, Arthur, she is survived by a sister, Virginia Dale Bartlett and her husband Robert H. Bartlett of Plymouth, MA; two sons and their wives: Drs. Robert and Kristina McCain of Reno, NV and Scott and Kristen McCain of Easton, CT: a daughter Elizabeth and her husband Renwick Quesada, of N. Stamford, CT; seven grandchildren: Taylor McCain of New York City, Sarah, Rebecca and Elizabeth McCain of Easton, Justin Mucelli of N. Stamford, Kyle Quinn-Quesada and his wife Elizabeth of Albuquerque, NM, and Colin Quinn-Quesada of Fullerton, CA, and many nieces and nephews.
A memorial service will take place Saturday, April 23, 2022 at 11:0 0 A.M. at the Greenfield Hill Congregational Church in Fairfield. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the Greenfield Hill Congregational Church, 1045 Old Academy Rd., Fairfield, CT. 06824. The Spear-Miller Funeral Home of Fairfield is in charge of arrangements.
