Marie A. (Weege) Harlow

Marie (Weege) A. Harlow, age 93, beloved wife of the late Albert L. Harlow, died at Christiana Hospital in Newark, DE on Tuesday, April 30, 2024.  She was born on November 11, 1930 to Thomas and Lee Attianese. She was raised in Fairfield, CT, and lived there most of her life. She had moved to Wilmington, DE in 2024 to be near her daughter, Hilary Tower.

A graduate of Mary Washington College and Laurelton Hall, Weege met her husband, Al, when he was at the University of Virginia, and she was at Mary Washington.  They lived in Charlottesville, VA and then in Newport, RI while Al was serving in the Navy before settling in Fairfield where her husband set up his law practice, and where they raised their 3 children. They were happily married for 42 years. Al died in 1995.

Weege served in many philanthropic and leadership roles in the community.  She was extremely active in the Junior League of Bridgeport since she became a provisional member in the early 1960’s.  She was heavily involved with Youth Opportunity Unlimited (Y.O.U.) and worked on the enrichment committee which brought creative dramatics to the Waltersville School of Bridgeport. She also helped introduce “Black History Week” in the local schools. She continued to be an active member in the Sustainers of the Junior League and loved her visits into NYC on their bus trips where she saw many plays, visited museums, and enjoyed many lunches. She always said, “New York is the best city in the world!”

She was an apprentice to the Westport Country Playhouse, and active in Community Theater and the Comedy Club of Bridgeport. She was a member of the Fairfield County Hunt Club and the Fairfield Beach club where she was known to be a wonderful hostess of so many Beach Club dinners. She was passionate about her Bridge and book clubs and loved to ski, play tennis and golf. Later in life, she enjoyed oil painting florals, abstracts and landscapes.

Weege was a dedicated and loving mother to her children and adored her grandchildren.  She is survived by her daughter, Leslie Wytrzes (Wayne) of Palm Beach, FL, and Nantucket, MA, Albert L. Harlow, Jr. (Danette) of Chagrin Falls, OH, and Hilary L. Tower (Harry) of Wilmington, DE. She is also survived by her grandchildren, Albert L. Harlow III, Robert D. Harlow, Harry P. Tower, Jr., William H. and Lillian A. Wytrzes.
