Mary Frances Abbott

Mary Frances (Havlik) Abbott of Black Rock, Bridgeport, CT, passed comfortably on December 9, 2014 at Yale New Haven Hospital. Born January 13, 1936 in New York City, daughter of Hubert and Violet Havlik, Mary grew up in Washington, DC and Paris, France. Mary attended Goucher College in Baltimore, MD before marrying Cornelius Webster Abbott III in 1957. Mary was a great cook, nature lover and avid reader, well known in the family for clipping articles of interest from the newspaper and mailing them to her children and grandchildren. A passionate chef, one of her greatest pleasures was preparing and enjoying amazing meals for friends and family. Many hours were spent with her binoculars bird and boat watching at St. Mary's by the Sea. She worked in customer service at Klaff's in Norwalk for many years and took pride in being a diligent and dependable resource for her customers. Her intelligence, sharp wit and compassionate nature will be missed by all. Mary is survived by her loving husband and children Mary Price Abbott and husband Patrick Monahan, of New York City, Jennifer Abbott, of Vermont and her three beloved grandchildren, Michelle Holland, Marcus Holland, and Sarah Grace Abbott, and great-grandson Aiden, nine nieces and nephews. She was predeceased by her sister, Susan Havlik Balshaw and her daughter Katherine. The family would like to express their gratitude and thanks to the caring nurses and doctors in the Cardiac unit at Yale New Haven Hospital, who cared for her with such love and compassion over the last three years. In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations be made to the Transplant Patient Care Fund at Yale New Haven Hospital or the Connecticut Audubon Society.
