Mary Kay Frost, beloved wife of Donald Frost of Fairfield, CT, passed away on Sunday, October 24, 2021 at her home with her family by her side. Born in Queens, NY, the daughter of the late Joseph David Burger and Ernestine Steinert Burger, she was a Fairfield resident since 1977. Mary Kay graduated from The College of New Rochelle with a BA degree and received a MS degree Cum Laude in Library Science from Columbia University.
Mary Kay was a devoted wife, mother, grandmother and friend to many. She was happiest when spending time with her family, volunteering, listening to classical music with her husband, and sharing her homemade applesauce and strawberry rhubarb jam with family and friends.
Mary Kay worked for 13 years at General Electric as the Project Director of the corporate IT Library, where she created and edited a newsletter on information technology distributed worldwide. Upon leaving GE, she worked for 16 years as a Knowledge Analyst at McKinsey & Company at their then newly-formed Business Technology Office in Stamford.
Mary Kay was an active member of the Fairfield community. She was elected to two terms on the RTM and two years on the Board of Finance. She was also a 10 year member of the Parking Authority of Fairfield, including two terms as chairperson, striving to make life better for the train commuters. She also served as Treasurer on the Bigelow Center Life Long Learner Board with a group of wonderful people. She spearheaded and fundraised for the Rock Ridge Triangle Beautification project and ran it for many years.
One of Mary Kay’s greatest passions was education, leading her to volunteer at the Fairfield Woods Library and serve as a PTA board member at Osborn Hill, Timothy Dwight, Fairfield Woods, Andrew Warde and Fairfield High, as well as serving as a board member of PTA Council. In 1988, she co-founded what was then The Fairfield High School Scholarship Foundation, now The High School Scholarship Foundation of Fairfield. Since its founding in 1988 the Scholarship Foundation has awarded over $2 million in scholarships to over 3,000 graduating students from Fairfield Ludlowe, Fairfield Warde, and Fairfield High. In 2019, Mary Kay was recognized both locally and by the state for her dedicated work on the Scholarship Foundation with a Proclamation from the CT General Assembly and the Town of Fairfield.
