Mary Elizabeth Hartman

Mary E. Shenk Hartman, (Libby), of Bridgeport, wife of Robert B. Hartman, died Tuesday, February 18, 2014 in Bridgeport. Mrs. Hartman was born July 20, 1928 in Lancaster, PA, daughter of the late Bertha M. Trout and Lois G. Shenk, Sr. She graduated with a BS in teaching from the Millersville State Teacher's University in Millersville, PA in 1950 and taught briefly before marrying and moving to Connecticut with her husband. Libby became a substitute teacher in the Fairfield School System, an active member and volunteer for the Bridgeport Hospital Auxiliary, Trafalgar Chapter of the DBE, the Fairfield Women's Club, St. John's Episcopal Church Altar Guild, Burroughs Home Corporate Board, and was past president of the Burroughs Home Auxiliary Board. Her hobbies included reading, gardening, and remembering the anniversaries, birthdays and holidays of friends and relatives. Mrs. Hartman is survived by her husband Robert B. Hartman of Bridgeport, a brother Louis G. Shenk, Jr. of Lancaster, PA, nieces and nephews and several great nieces and great nephews. A Memorial Service will take place at St. Paul's Episcopal Church, 661 Old Post Rd., Fairfield on Tuesday, February 25, 2014 at 1:00 PM.
