Mary E. (Robinson) Pioli

Mary E. Pioli (Robinson) 90, loving wife, mother, aunt, grandmother and great grandmother went home to be with the Lord on October 24th surrounded by her loving family.  Born on April 30, 1933 in Stamford, CT, Mary was the youngest of her siblings born to the late David and Eva (Casey) Robinson.  Mary graduated Stamford High School in 1951 and was married on October 9, 1954 to her late husband Floyd J. Pioli, Sr.  They were married for 57 years.

Mary is survived by her four devoted children, Sandra Panza (Joseph), Floyd Pioli, Jr. (Karen), Brenda Pioli (Todd), and Marlene Battista (Richard). Mary was blessed with 4 grandsons, Steven Panza, Bryan Pioli (Rachel), Jeff Woodrow (Michelle), Matthew Pioli (Michele) and 4 great grandsons, Joseph Panza, Ellis and Heath Pioli, and Christopher Pioli.

Mary was predeceased by her siblings, sisters Florence (Fred) Caldwell, Lillian (Pete) Peterson and Marie (Arthur) Roberts and brothers, Albert (Emily), Harry (Ida), George (Phyllis) and Charles (Antionette) Robinson. Mary has many nieces and nephews, some of which have predeceased her.

Mary and her husband Floyd, lived on Sunshine Avenue in Riverside for 43 years before moving to Fairfield where she lived next door to her son Floyd Jr., daughter-in-law Karen and two grandsons Bryan and Matthew for the next 25 years.  Mary loved living in Fairfield with all her family and friends living close by.

In addition to being a devoted wife, mother and homemaker, Mary held various positions as bookkeeper for her husband’s businesses and worked as a Substitute Coordinator for the City of Stamford Public Schools.  After her husband suffered a stroke in 1990, Mary retired from the position of Operations Manager after 16 years with the Greenwich YWCA to become a full-time caregiver for her husband for the next 20 years.

Mary joined Trinity Baptist Church (TBC) in 1998 and quickly became very involved in many of the church activities. She loved attending the weekly Bible Study, the monthly Women’s Fresh Brewed breakfasts and Women’s Fellowship, where she served as Secretary for many years.   She eagerly looked forward to attending church every Sunday and listening to the sermons by her favorite Pastors and enjoyed the Fellowship time afterwards. During her time at TBC, Mary made many special and dear friends.  Her faith in God and love for her church were very important to her.  Throughout her illness Mary enjoyed the comfort of her dear church friends who visited her weekly and brought much joy, love, laughter and spiritual comfort with each and every visit.  Those visits were the highlight of her week!

Mary was always at her happiest when the family would all gather together for holidays, special occasions and cooking for weekly family Sunday dinners.  She loved having club night and playing cards and spending time with her life-long friends.  Mary was an avid sports fan and loved watching and talking all things sports but especially enjoyed watching the New York Yankees and the UCONN Women’s Basketball.

The family would like to extend our sincere gratitude to Mary’s aides, Valerie, Fay, Jamecia, Shayve and Lima who over the last year and a half provided such wonderful and compassionate care to Mary. A special thank you also to Josie (RN), Mondie (LPN) and Jasmine (CNA) from Vitas Hospice for their care to Mary over the last 5 months.

She was loved and adored by her entire family and friends and will be dearly missed!
