Mary Bausserman Sprouse

At the age of 98 Mary Bausserman Sprouse died peacefully at the Lord Chamberlain Nursing Home in Stratford. Mary was born in Fisher's Hill, Virginia March 12, 1917, the daughter of Omer and Kate Bausserman. She grew up in Fisher's Hill and Alexandria, Virginia where she met and married Lawrence H. Sprouse, a marriage that lasted 59 years until his death. They moved from Virginia to Providence, Rhode Island before settling in Fairfield in 1954, then to Easton. Mary worked as an administrative assistant for the Westport school system before retiring in 1980. She was a very active member of the First Church Congregational in Fairfield where she served as a deaconess. She also enjoyed bridge, the garden club and ballroom dancing. Mary was predeceased by her husband, Larry and a grandson, David. She is survived by her three sons, L. Henry Sprouse, Jr., D.M.D., and his wife Betty of Stratford, Stewart T. Sprouse and his wife Betsy of Ft Myers, Florida and Geoffrey A. Sprouse of Belle Harbor, New York, six grandchildren and nine great grandchildren. A memorial service will be held Monday, December 7, 2015 at 11:00 a.m. at First Church Congregational Fairfield with the Rev. David Spollett officiating. Interment will be private.
