Mary Anne Urquhart

Mary Anne Harvey Urquhart of Fairfield died peacefully in her home on Thursday, November 22. She was born on January 15, 1929 in Danville, Virginia, the daughter of the late Edwin and Mary Harvey, and moved with her family as a young girl to Winston-Salem, North Carolina. She attended Mary Washington and Salem colleges. In 1954 she married her hometown sweetheart, John ("Jack") Urquhart and moved north with him. She was a devoted wife and mother who relocated her family 10 times as her husband's career advanced, settling in Fairfield in 1982. She was fortunate in her lifetime to have traveled extensively around the world. She was active in many organizations in the communities in which she lived, most notably The Fairfield Garden Club, The Fairfield Women's Exchange and the Trinity Church Altar Guild here in Fairfield. She was a member of The Country Club of Fairfield and Pequot Yacht Club. In addition to spending time with family and friends, she had been an avid golfer and tennis player and most recently loved playing bridge and watching "Jeopardy".

She is predeceased by her husband of over 60 years, Jack, and her sister Betty Harvey Ham of Hickory, North Carolina. She is survived by her daughter, Jane Urquhart Lowe (and her husband Jim) of Surrey, England and her son John ("Alex") Urquhart (and his wife Judy), also of Fairfield. In addition, she was beloved "Mimi" to her seven grandchildren and six great grandchildren.

Mary Anne will be greatly missed by her family and friends for her warmth and caring. Her southern charm and grace were a joy to all that knew her.

A memorial service will be held at Trinity Episcopal Church in Southport at 11 a.m. on Thursday, November 29. In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made to St. Jude Children's Research Hospital or Trinity Episcopal Church.
