Michael Anthony Siano, of Norwalk, passed away peacefully January 13, 2022 with family by his side. He was born in Canale, Italy, July 20, 1936, the oldest son of Elisabetta and Erminio Siano. Michael was a serial entrepreneur who reinvented himself professionally more than a few times. In the 1960s and 1970s, Michael owned three successful – and at the time, cutting-edge – self-named hair salons in Darien, New Canaan, and Stamford. He was a platform stylist and performed and competed in international hair shows and competitions. During this time, he also founded two hair academies where he taught. Then, after a short stint as a restaurateur, Michael started Superior Used Restaurant Equipment and operated the business for more than 20 years before selling it and retiring in 2001.
Michael proudly enlisted in the US Marine Corps at the age of 17, and served during the Korean War for the country that welcomed him as a boy. Landscaping, gardening, and cooking served as outlets for his natural creative talent and he loved nothing more than sharing a meal or game of cards with family and friends in his gardens.
Michael was predeceased by his devoted wife of 63 years, Marie (Rozmeski) Siano, in 2019. Survivors include his loving children and their spouses, Michael J. and Tracy Siano, and Christine (Siano) and Luis Restrepo of Fairfield; and Gina (Siano) and Steven Orban of Norwalk; a brother, Tony Siano, of Fairfield, grandchildren Philip and Stuart Siano, Avery and Griffin Restrepo, Christopher Orban, and Blake Riley, great-grandson Warren Riley and many loving nieces and nephews. Michael was blessed with enduring friendships and a loving community which meant the world to him.
A memorial service celebrating Michael's life will be held on Saturday, March 5, 2022 at 11:00am at Trinity Episcopal Church, 651 Pequot Avenue, Southport.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests gifts in Michael’s honor to the Semper Fi & America’s Fund.
