Mona L. Porier Dennehy, age 85, formerly of Fairfield, passed away peacefully Tuesday, May 4, 2021, at Regency House in Wallingford, after a brief illness with family at her side. Mona was born in Detroit, MI, the daughter of the late Delbert and Gladys Lotts.
She worked for many years with her husband, Wally, operating their Kentucky Fried Chicken franchises and later worked as executive secretary for the Fairfield Chamber of Commerce. Mona was a longtime volunteer at St. Vincent’s Medical Center and also lent her time and talent to countless community and school organizations.
Mona lived a thoughtful and selfless life, generously giving of herself in the face of tragedy, loving and providing for family, friends, and strangers alike, with a faithfully dedicated servant’s heart. Known for her radiant smile, adventurous travel, and love of gathering with friends and family, Mona could be counted on for elegant parties marked by excellent food, endless laughter, and the making of wonderful memories.
Mona was predeceased by two loving husbands, Wallace A. Porier and Philip D. Dennehy, and her son, Jonathan Porier. She will be sadly missed by her five children, Andrew Porier and his fiancé, Charlene Cannon of Trumbull, Joseph Porier and his wife, Deborah Hunter of Fairfield, Constance May and her husband, David of Fayetteville, GA, Christopher Porier and his wife, Katherine of Charlotte, NC, and Thomas Porier and his wife, Anne of Wallingford; five step-children, Diane O’Hare and her husband, Edward of New Rochelle, NY, Sheila Conneely of Southold, NY, Maura Gair and her husband, Steven of Peachtree City, GA, Daniel Dennehy and his wife, Magret of Minneapolis, MN, and Philip Dennehy and his wife, Cary Burgess of Fairfield; 19 cherished grandchildren and many great-grandchildren. The family would like to express their sincere thanks to Mona’s wonderful caregivers, Christa, Donna, and Irina for their care and compassion over the past few years.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated Saturday, May 8, 2021 at 11:00 a.m. at St. Ann Church, 481 Brewster Street, Bridgeport. Interment will follow in Oak Lawn Cemetery, Fairfield. Friends may call Friday from 4-8 p.m. in the Spear-Miller Funeral Home, 39 South Benson Road, Fairfield. Face masks and social distancing will be required for all services. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the Closer to Free Fund of The Smilow Cancer Hospital and Yale Cancer Center.
