Muriel Ann Scholz

Muriel Ann Scholz, a lifelong resident of her beloved  Fairfield, Connecticut known by generations of her former students simply as “MRS SCHOLZ”  passed away peacefully on the morning of August 24th at the age of 86 while at the Cambridge Manor Heath and Rehabilitation Center in Fairfield, Connecticut due to health complications.

Born in Bridgeport in 1937 to Agnes and Lawrence Hajas, Muriel grew up on Eliot Street with her brother Larry and a variety of pets which, at an early age endeared her to pursue a lifetime of love and fascination with all creatures great and small, especially Cats.

A short lived first marriage while still in college at Danbury State teacher`s college resulted in the birth of her only natural born son Eugene A. Kane.

Her legendary teaching career began with a brief assignment in Rochester, N.Y. followed by 2 years at Oldfield School in Fairfield.

Muriel found her true calling in 1963 when as “Miss Kane” she began teaching kindergarten at McKinley School on Thompson Street in Fairfield, Connecticut.

It wasn`t long after that when her life changed dramatically marrying a handsome local truckdriver named Floyd Scholz.

Floyd Sr., a divorced father of 3 and his new bride were now a family of 6 and adjusted well.  To the Fairfield community, Muriel was now known simply as… Mrs. Scholz.    (Did I mention she loved Cats?)

As an accomplished pianist, composer, artist  and vocalist, Muriel was fortunate to be able to draw upon these talents to enhance her classroom experience. During a teaching career spanning 52 years, she developed an energetic, joyous, flamboyant, creative and loving style of connecting with and inspiring her students and contemporaries in ways still not fully understood by those who stood in admiration…

She gave love and got love to multi generations of appreciative Fairfielders   (and… she loved Cats)

When not at McKinley teaching school, Muriel and her husband Floyd enjoyed tending their bountiful vegetable garden and, as avid campers, fishing partners and hunting partners.   They relished their time together out on Long Island Sound on their wonderful Grady White fishing boat and on dry land, were avid Bowlers!

The Scholz  family was always busy pursuing various outdoor activities driven by her enthusiasm and curiosity for the natural world which was contagious!

When in 1994, with the devastating loss of the love of her life husband, best friend and inseparable partner, she devoted all her energies into fostering a multitude of homeless Cats and teaching at her beloved McKinley School until her 2015 retirement.

After retiring from teaching, she enjoyed spending time with her close friends Barbara Harrington and Eileen Flynn.

Muriel Scholz is survived by her son Floyd Scholz and wife Beatriz of Hancock, Vermont and Windermere, Florida.

Known as “Gam-Gam” to her much-loved grandchildren  Shane and Anna Scholz of Winston/Salem North Carolina, Christine Pelletier of Brooklyn, Connecticut, Jessica Goodall of Danielson, Connecticut, Ramon Pimentel of Caracas, Venezuela, David and Helenia Lennon of Gainesville, Georgia, Charles and Beatriz Morrison of Caracas, Venezuela, Elizabeth and Fernando Nunez of Caracas, Venezuela.

Her Great Grandchildren are Vincent Scholz of Winston/Salem, North Carolina, Sage Eno of Brooklyn, Connecticut, David Lennon of Boston, Massachusetts , Skylar Goodall of Brooklyn, Connecticut, Alexandra Lennon of Orlando, Florida, Kiethy Perry of Brooklyn, Connecticut, Ramon Pimentel III of Phoenix, Arizona, Michelle and Christine Morrison of Caracas Venezuela, Fernando Antonio Nunez of Caracas, Venezuela and Ana Luisa Pimentel of Florence, Italy.
