It is with great sadness that we share the passing of Nancy Ann Gjerlow. Nancy, aged 83, passed away February 21, 2020 in Redding, Connecticut, one week shy of her 84th birthday.
Born in Brooklyn, New York on February 28, 1936, she was the daughter of Stephen Hackett Smith and Nancy Ann Milton and was one of four children. She survived her older brother, the late Stephen Smith, and is survived by her two other brothers Roy and Donald Smith.
Nancy leaves behind two children, Stephanie Gjerlow, now living in Bronxville, NY and Robert Gjerlow Jr., who married Anna McCubbin Wells in 2005, now living in Chicago, Il. She also leaves behind four beautiful grandchildren-Savannah Delli Colli, Dakota Delli Colli, Wells Ragnar Gjerlow, and Sebastian Smith Faulkner Gjerlow.
Nancy enjoyed traveling the world with her husband Bob, who was an international banker, and their two children. They met in New York City and were married at Saint Patrick's Cathedral. From there, they lived in San Juan, Puerto Rico, Minato-ku in Tokyo, Japan and eventually Singapore where they resided for eleven years. They returned to New York in 1983 and established a home in Bedford, where they lived for over 30 years.
Nancy graduated from University of Pennsylvania and went on to become a buyer for Saks Fifth Avenue at their flagship store in New York City. Upon returning to the United States in 1983, Nancy became actively involved in the real estate sales business in Westchester County and went on to open her own real estate brokerage firm in Dutchess County.
"Nancy with the laughing face" is how she left this world - a quote from Sinatra and a nickname that she earned from her friends in her younger years working in New York City. To her brothers she was known as "Sincy" and to her loving grandchildren, she became famously known as "Nanny."
