Nancy Elizabeth Thorne of Wilton, beloved wife of the late Joseph P. Thorne, passed away Monday, August 4, 2014 at Danbury Hospital. Born July 20, 1931 in Bristol, PA the daughter of the late Harold and Adele Erb, she had been a resident of Wilton since 1967. Mrs. Thorne received her Bachelors Degree from Swarthmore College and worked as an analyst for the New York Stock Exchange. Following her marriage and becoming a mother, she dedicated her life to raising her two daughters. Nancy was an active volunteer for numerous organizations including serving as President of the Wilton PTA, was instrumental in developing the Young Horizons Program, served on the Vestry at St. Matthews Episcopal Church, was a member of the Daughters of the American Revolution and achieved the status of a certified instructor in Ikebana, a Japanese style of unique floral arranging. She was also active in Wilton town politics serving on the Republican Town Committee and the North Wilton Association. Survivors include two beloved daughters, Elizabeth (Betsy) Gillespie and her husband Craig of Fairfield and Susan Hackel and her husband Andrew of Redding; three cherished grandchildren, Devon Gillespie, Katarina and Alexandra Hackel. A memorial service will be held Friday, September 5, 2014 at 6:00 PM at St. Matthew's Episcopal Church, Wilton.
