Newton H. Williams, Jr., age 93, of Newtown, beloved husband of the late Constance (Connie) Bond Williams, passed away Sunday, April 10, 2016 at Danbury Hospital. Born in Shelton, the son of the late Newton H. and Mildred Williams, he had been a lifelong area resident. He graduated from Shelton High School and served in the U.S. Army Air Corps during World War II. Following his military service, Mr. Williams graduated from Booth and Bayliss Business School and began his lifelong career as an accountant. He was a long-time active member of Stepney Baptist Church where he served as Treasurer, on the Deaconate, the Board of Trustees, in the choir; and was always willing to volunteer and assist with any church functions or projects. Newton was an avid fisherman and always looked forward to his annual trips to Vermont and his fishing trips to Maine. He also loved wood carving, stamp collecting, jigsaw puzzles and was a devoted UConn Women Huskies fan. He was a member of the American Legion. Survivors include two sons, Jeffrey A. Williams and his wife Donna of Newtown and Craig A. Bond of Bethlehem; five cherished grandchildren, Charissa, Heather, Lane, Chandler and Hailey; two beloved great-grandchildren, Hannah and Jack; a brother-in-law, Chandler Bond of St. Johnsville, NY and many nieces and nephews. In addition to his wife Connie, he was predeceased by a son, Glenn Williams and two brothers, Marshal and Gordon Williams. A funeral service will be held Friday, April 15, 2016 at 11:00 a.m. at Stepney Baptist Church with the Rev. Kevin A. Merritt, Senior Pastor, officiating. Interment with military honors will follow in Stepney Village Cemetery. Friends may call Thursday from 4-8 p.m. in the Spear-Miller Funeral Home, 39 South Benson Road, Fairfield.
