Patricia Catherine Cheney

Patricia Catherine Cheney, age 86, of Monroe, formerly of Fairfield, beloved wife of the late C. Brian Cheney, passed away peacefully Thursday, July 20, 2017 at the CT Hospice, Branford. Born in Plaistow, England, the daughter of the late Thomas and Alice Prince she came to the United States in 1960 and had been a Fairfield resident since 1962. Patricia worked for over 30 years at the Jewish Home for the Elderly, starting as a weekend receptionist and ultimately rising to the position of Director of Personnel. She was loved by her co-workers and employees at the JHE who affectionately referred to her as, "Miss Pat". Mrs. Cheney was a long-time active member of Calvary-St. George's Episcopal Church where she was a member of the Vestry, the Altar Guild, helped run the Vacation Bible School, the Thrift Shop, the Church Fair and various community outreach events. She was actively involved in the Fairfield League of Woman Voters, and a member of the Happy Hearts Club at Calvary Evangelical Free Church. Patricia participated in the Book Club at the Monroe Senior Center and was involved in the Transatlantic Bride Association. Patricia was proud of her British heritage and was always willing to tell stories of her life growing up outside London during World War II. Survivors include two beloved children, Michael Cheney and his wife Karen and Maureen Kuraska and her husband Craig, all of Monroe; and three cherished grandsons, Brian, Daniel and Matthew. A funeral service will be held Tuesday, July 25, 2017 at 10:00 a.m. meeting directly at Calvary-St. George's Episcopal Church, 755 Clinton Ave., Bridgeport. Interment will follow in Oak Lawn Cemetery, Fairfield. Friends may call Monday from 4-8 p.m. in the Spear-Miller Funeral Home, 39 South Benson Road, Fairfield.
