Paul Farago, Sr.

Paul Farago Sr of Fairfield CT passed away on Tuesday November 2, 2021, at the age of 81 after several months of declining health, in Bridgeport Hospital.

Paul was born in Hungary on October 31, 1940, to Joseph Farago and Katalin Sardi. He was the youngest of five siblings surviving during the troublesome era of WWII and the Hungarian Revolution. Paul worked on the family farm which quickly built the foundation for his unwavering work ethic. That work ethic and desire to have a better life led him to flee Hungary at the age of only 16.

After fleeing Hungary, Paul entered a refugee camp in Yugoslavia and was later transferred to Italy. By 1959 he was granted an emigrant visa to enter the United States via New York City with almost no money in his pocket. When Paul came to the United States, he could not read or write the English language, but this never limited his life or experiences. He worked extremely hard and made it a priority to learn the language just as he learned Italian when emigrating to Italy. That hard work and commitment earned him a long and happy career at BIC Pen where he was an expert tool and die maker until his retirement. He had a keen eye and appreciated quality workmanship of all kinds.

In 1960, Paul met Sara another native Hungarian at the Hungarian club in Greenwich, CT. It was love at first sight and they married and built a beautiful life together in Fairfield where they raised five children and welcomed five grandchildren. After an amazing 41 years of marriage, Sara sadly passed away in their home in Fairfield.

Paul found love again when he met another native Hungarian Jolan at his best friend’s house in Greenwich, CT. Her dedication to Paul and to his family was endless. Together Paul and Jolan shared almost 20 years of marriage and welcomed three more grandchildren and two great grandchildren.

Paul loved the outdoors, and he walked every day. Biking was another passion and in his prime he would ride for 50-60 miles. Paul and Jolan created a beautiful garden together each Spring and he loved sharing the summer produce with everyone. Paul was an avid hunter and fisherman and passed on that passion to his sons. He was a devoted member and Elder of the Fairfield congregation of Jehovah’s Witnesses for over 50 years and was passionately involved in the congregation and his preaching. Paul loved to learn and always looked for any opportunity to soak up new information. His outgoing nature, quick wit, hearty laugh, and big smile was enjoyed by all who knew him.

Paul was preceded in death by his parents, his siblings Katalin, Joseph and Jolan, his step-son Zoltan, his first wife Sara, and his granddaughter Laura. Paul is survived by his wife Jolan Farago of Fairfield, brother Gyula Farago of Hungary, children Paul Jr. (Judy) Farago of Florida, Joseph (Theresa) Farago of Colorado, Maria (Charles Jr.) Kelly of Trumbull, CT and John (Stacy) Farago of North Haven, CT.

He was a cherished grandfather to Scott, Bonnie, Charles III, Casey, Sara, Jack and Maxwell as well as great-grandfather to Myles and Mackenzie.

A celebration of life will be held from 4-7pm on Thursday November 11, 2021 at Spear Miller Funeral Home, 39 South Benson Road, Fairfield, CT 06824.
