Dr. Paul E. Knox, age 84 of Fairfield, passed away peacefully in his home, Sunday, February 8, 2015. Born in Greenville, TX, the son of the late Roy P. and Estella Knox, he was raised in Dallas and began studying piano at the age of five and the organ at age nine. Paul was a member of The Apollo Boys Choir, forerunner of The Texas Boys Choir and toured with them through the South, Central States and the Northeast. He received a Bachelors of Music from North Texas State University, with a major in organ. Paul then served four years in the United States Air Force. Following his military service he received a Masters of Sacred Music degree from Union Theological Seminary in New York City. He performed private coaching duties while pursuing postgraduate work for two years at Columbia University. Paul received the Doctor of Music, Honoris Causa, from Piedmont College, Georgia in 1992 in recognition of his church music career. He was a member of the American Guild of Organists, past Dean of The Greater Bridgeport Chapter, and past chair of AGO New England Regional Convention. For sixteen years he served as adjunct professor of music at The University of Bridgeport. Dr. Knox retired following 32 years as Choir Director at the United Congregational Church, Bridgeport where he conducted a full time multiple choir program of singing choirs, handbells, recorders and Orff instruments. Following his retirement Paul continued to serve local churches including Trumbull Congregational, Golden Hill United Methodist and First Church Congregational, Fairfield. All who had the pleasure and honor of knowing Paul shall miss him dearly. Survivors include a brother, John T. Knox and his wife Nancy; a niece, Dara Knox Stewart and a nephew, John T. Knox, Jr., all of Texas; and many dear friends. A memorial service celebrating Paul's life will be held Saturday, March 7, 2015 at 12:00 p.m. at First Church Congregational, Fairfield with the Rev.
