Paul W. Lafayette, age 77, of Fairfield, beloved husband of Jane C. (nee Mattos) Lafayette, passed on to his Heavenly Father on Monday, March 23, 2015 at The Jewish Home of Fairfield, after a long illness. Born in Oakland, CA, he was the son of the late Alfred C. and Cora (nee O'Connor) Lafayette. He is a former resident of San Francisco (CA), Salt Lake City (CA), Highland Park (IL), Chagrin Falls (OH), Pittsburgh (PA), Weston (CT), and New York City. He received a B.A. in Broadcasting from San Francisco State University, and worked as a sales manager for many different record companies, including Capitol. Most recently, he served many as a financial counselor, and was also an entertainment host, compiling and discussing many movie-show themes for such clients as 1199 in New York City and Founders Hall in Ridgefield, CT.
In addition to his beloved wife, he is survived by a sister, Cherie (and Nelson) McAfee of the San Francisco Bay Area, and six children: Michelle Nolan of Fairfield; Gabrielle (and Tom) Daves of Norwalk; Leslie (and Bill) Flocco of Reading, PA; Christopher (and Glenda Charles) Lafayette of Bridgeport; Adrienne (and Joseph, Sr.) Sanna of Bridgeport; and Noel Lafayette of Weston. He is predeceased by a brother, Alfred, Jr., of Oakland, CA. Paul is also survived by several grandchildren, the true treasures of his heart: Samantha and Hannah Nolan; Michael Mendoza and Ian Daves; Matthew and Trevor Flocco; Joshua Lafayette; and Christa, Joseph, Jr., Jacqueline and Jeanette Sanna. Other survivors include a brother-in-law, William Brock, and many nieces and nephews from California, as well as countless endeared friends and business associates from around the country. The most important times of Paul's life were with family and friends, from coast to coast. He spent most of his young life in movie theaters, which significantly contributed to his love and affinity for film, theater, and the arts in general. The most endearing times for him and Jane were taking the grandchildren, in small groups, to NYC every Thanksgiving season for dinner and a show. These experiences left indelible marks and countless memories on the lives and in the hearts of his grandchildren, his beloved pride and joy. His professional life netted countless memories, as well as the beginning of many life-long friendships. He served as a member of First Church Congregational's music committee, and supported Jane during her time spent as a deacon. His strongest memories at First Church were witnessing the numerous baptisms and confirmations of many of his grandchildren.
A Celebration of Paul's life will take place on Saturday, April 18, 2015, at 3:00 p.m. at First Church Congregational, 148 Beach Rd., Fairfield, CT.
