Peggy Middlemass Steucek, age 97, passed away peacefully on June 14, 2021 after a courageous battle with cancer. She was born April 11, 1924 in Bridgeport, CT to Robert Cairns Middlemass and Mildred Fletcher Middlemass. She was predeceased by her loving husband O. Peter Steucek, sister Bette Smith, and brothers Robert and John Middlemass.
Peggy met every day with an engaging smile and unbridled enthusiasm to live each day to the fullest. She loved her family, dear friends, drives by the ocean, summer concerts, lobster rolls and sunny days. She was a lifelong member of the United Congregational Church of Bridgeport, CT. Peggy enjoyed a long successful career in both Fine Art and Commercial Art. She was a board member of Connecticut Classic Arts Group, Third Stream Artists and SCAN. She studied under Revington Arthur at Silvermine Guild and also an acclaimed seascape artist, Dana Gibson Noble. Peggy was the in-house artist at the Ritz Ballroom, Bridgeport where she produced hand lettered signs for the Big Band Orchestras and frequently chatted with famous musicians like Louis Armstrong. In the 70’s she was a realtor at Fairfield County Real Estate and also did house portraits for their ads. Peggy also was a commissioned portrait artist. She won numerous awards for her seascape and landscape oil paintings in area exhibitions and solo shows. In addition to her art career, Peggy worked for U.B. as Assistant Director of the Student Center.
Peggy is survived by her daughters S. Pamela (Michael) Reese of Redding, and Patricia (George) Brown of Trumbull; Grandchildren, Whitney Reese (John) Giannelli, Logan Reese, Spencer Reese, Shane Brown (Brenna), Scott Brown (Emily), Chad Brown (Evan Marie); Great grandchildren, Hunter and Marley Giannelli, Brody, Grady, Colby, Carter and Ellie Brown and many nieces and nephews.
The family would like to thank Constellation Hospice, particularly Angela Tingle and Rachael Wallin for their compassionate care.
