Priscilla Marion Gminski

Priscilla Marion Gminski, 97, died peacefully on March 10, 2018 at The Jewish Home. Arrangements are with Spear-Miller Funeral Home in Fairfield.

She was the daughter of Antonina and Victor Lesniewski and the wife of F. Walter Gminski (d.1994). She was predeceased by her sister Marion, brothers Conrad, Frank, Paul, Richard, Stanley, Vincent, and her son W. Gerald Gminski and granddaughter Priscilla Ruth Burr. She is survived by her daughters Constance Burr (Timothy) and Ruth Priscilla Gminski and her son Leslie Gminski; her grandchildren Sarah Burr Crockett (Sandy), Eben Burr (Tanya), Erica and Matthew Gminski, Leslie's children; and Emmy and Chris Gminski, Gerry's children; great grandchildren Andrew and Eben Crockett and Banks Burr; her sister-in-law Alva Gminski; and many nephews and nieces.

A lifelong resident of Bridgeport and Fairfield, Priscilla graduated from Lincoln School, where, as students filed out for the day, she played the Connecticut March on the piano. During those years, she won the Library Reading Award three years in a row. She attended Harding High School. She studied piano since childhood. In her youth she accompanied soloists and choirs.

During the 1960s and 70s she was a licensed health care aid in Bridgeport Hospital and nearby communities. In the early 50s, she and her family moved to an old farmhouse in Fairfield, which she and Walter restored.

She was an early member of La Leche League in the 1950s. Priscilla was a founding member of the Fairfield Grace United Methodist Church. Her interests focused on education, family and many friends. Most recently she contributed to"Memories, Stories and Wisdom," the oral history program at the Jewish Home. Blind for a number of years, she continued her love of reading by listening to Talking Books provided free from the Library of Congress. A wordsmith, she also continued to do crossword puzzles. A friend would read the clues and she would provide the answers.

Thanks to all who helped with her care.
