Raymond A. Gallagher, age 94, of Bridgeport, beloved husband of 47 years of the late Cecelia S. Gallagher, passed away peacefully Friday, March 3, 2017 at St. Vincent's Medical Center surrounded by his loving family. Born and raised in the Black Rock section of Bridgeport, son of the late Anthony and Nora Gallagher, he had been a proud lifelong resident of Bridgeport. A graduate of Bassick High School, Raymond served in the U. S. Army Air Corps during World War II. Following the war, he graduated from the University of Connecticut. Raymond retired as Assistant Personnel Director of the Civil Service Commission for the City of Bridgeport. He was a member of the Holy Name Society at St. Michael the Archangel and a member of the Bridgeport Retired Employee's Association. Raymond enjoyed golfing at Fairchild Wheeler, bowling, playing pinochle with his friends and was an avid reader. Above all else, Raymond delighted in spending time with his family. Survivors include three devoted children, David Gallagher and his wife, Susan, Mary Ann DeRosa and her husband, Ronald of Shelton and Noreen Klinga and her husband, Edward of Fairfield; three beloved grandchildren Emily and John DeRosa and Judith Klinga, and many nieces and nephews. In addition to his loving wife Cecelia, he was predeceased by three brothers, Thomas, Robert and Clifford Gallagher. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated Saturday, March 11, 2017 at 9:00 AM meeting directly at Our Lady of the Assumption Church, 545 Stratfield Road (RT 59), Fairfield. Interment will follow in St. Michael's Cemetery. Friends may call Friday from 6-8 PM in the Spear-Miller Funeral Home, 39 South Benson Road, Fairfield. In lieu of flowers memorial contributions may be made to St. Michael the Archangel Church, 310 Pulaski Street, Bridgeport, CT 06608.
