Raymond Brian Andrews, M.D.

Raymond Brian Andrews, age 62, of Southport, beloved husband, father, and grandfather, passed away on July 22, 2017 following a two-year courageous battle with cancer. Ray grew up in Queens, New York, along with his brother and sister. He graduated from Colgate University in 1975 and University of Arizona Medical School in 1981. He then pursued residencies in both Internal Medicine and Anesthesiology and a Cardiac Anesthesiology Fellowship at Emory University in Atlanta, Georgia. In 1981 he met the love of his life, Janet Smith and they were married at Callanwolde in Atlanta in August, 1982. In September 1985, their daughter Jennifer Meacham Andrews was born. Ray's career brought the family to Southport, CT in January 1988. Ray began his 28-year career with Medical Anesthesiology Associates and practiced at St. Vincent's Medical Center in Bridgeport, CT. Ray and Janet welcomed their son, Benjamin Harris Andrews in August, 1989. Ray's true reason for living was his beloved wife, Janet; his daughter, Jennie; his son, Ben; his son-in-law, Chris; and his grandson, Leif. His family came before everything else. In addition to his family, Ray had many varied interests. Ray was an avid gardener and started The Rake and Hoe All Men's Garden Club of Fairfield County in 2001. Ray was also passionate about golf and was a member at The Patterson Club for over 25 years. In June 2017, The Patterson Club honored Ray by dedicating the pond on the 14th hole to him in appreciation for his koi donation and contributions to the club over the years. Ray was also a member of the Old Tabby Links Golf Club in Spring Island, SC and has won his flight championships in 2016 and 2017. Ray is best remembered for his smile, infectious laugh and joke telling. He made friends easily and everywhere, including in the golf baggage line at Shannon Airport in Ireland and in the waiting room at Memorial Sloan Kettering Medical Center. Ray is survived by his wife, Janet; his daughter, Jennifer and her husband, Chris Nylen, and their son Leif; and his son, Benjamin. A celebration of his life will be held at The Patterson Club.
