Raymond F. Rasmussen

Raymond F. Rasmussen, age 86, a loving husband and father passed away peacefully on February 26, 2022.    He was born in Fairfield, CT and lived there until moving to The Commons of Newtown Assisted Living in 2019.

He is survived by his wife of 65 years, Joan L. Bennett Rasmussen.  Ray, a retired Police Lieutenant of the Fairfield Police department served 30 years in the Patrol, Detective, and Support Services divisions.  After his retirement from the police department, he worked for Robert D. Scinto in Shelton as a building manager, and later as a facilities manager & mail room supervisor for Rhone Poulenc Inc. also in Shelton.

Ray was a graduate of the University of New Haven and the FBI Academy for police officers in Quantico, VA.  He is a past president of the Fairfield Lions Club, was a leader of the Emmaus youth group at Assumption church in Fairfield, and a Lector at Holy Cross church in Fairfield.  He served 15 years on the Parking Authority of Fairfield, five years as chairman.  He was also a member of the American Diabetes planning committee.  Ray was a founding member of the ROMEO’s (Retired Old Men Eating Out) that met every weekday morning to have coffee, a muffin and solve the problems of the world.  He loved playing golf, especially on the courses in Fairfield, and could frequently be seen at Nutmeg Lanes bowling with his friends. He was also known by his friends for his signature Flamingo picnics.

Ray was a highly respected member of the community he loved.

Survivors include son, Mark R Rasmussen, and his wife Laura, of Danbury CT, and children, Sarah Rasmussen of Southbury, Ryan and Erin Rasmussen and their children Everly and Jack of Northbridge, MA, and Jamie Rasmussen of Astoria, NY, son, Bruce R Rasmussen and his wife Leslie, of Valley Village, CA, and children Hunter Rasmussen and Jake Rasmussen, of Valley Village, CA.

Two nephews,  Dr. Robert Bennett, and his wife Dr. Susan Andracchi, of Wilmington, NC and children Catherine and John, and Michael Bennett, and his wife Albina, of Trumbull, CT and children Lauren and Sophia.

He is predeceased by a brother Robert H Rasmussen, brother-in-law Robert F Bennett, and sister-in-law Lynne Wargo Bennett.

Friends may call between 4-7 PM on Monday, March 21, 2022 at the Spear- Miller Funeral home in Fairfield.   A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated on Tuesday, March 22, 2022 at 10:00 AM in the church hall at Our Lady of Assumption Church in Fairfield.  Interment will follow in Lawncroft Cemetery.
